Retail NH3 prices have jumped by over $140 per ton in the last nine weeks. Both DAP and NH3 are running more than 40 percent above year-ago levels.

Despite record milk production through the summer, milk prices are soaring higher due to the demand in the butter market. Processors and merchandisers are concerned that there may not be enough butter available for year-end and holiday needs due to the already tight supplies.

DTN's View From the Cab farmers saw a mix of wet and dry weather during the 2010 growing season, but it was the heat in both Arkansas and South Dakota this summer that has had the biggest effect on their crops.

Corn futures are expected to open steady as of 6 a.m. CDT; soybeans 1 to 2 lower; wheat 2 to 3 lower.
Live and cattle contracts are likely to open higher thanks to short covering and ideas that yesterday's sell-off was overdone. Lean hog futures should start out on a mixed basis linked to a combination of residual selling and profit taking.
